Are We All Drunks?

As most of you know, last weekend we had our second straight beer die tourney last weekend. After killing 17 kegs at the BBDO, we managed to down around 550 cans and bottles of beer and teas last Saturday, so it go me thinking whether we are just a huge group of lushes or not. There is a commercial that plays on the Sports Hub that’s for a website named howdoyouscore.org. This site allows you to take a survey to tell whether or you have a problem with drinking, so I figured what the hell, let’s take a look. Upon completion on this survey, it was determined that I could have a problem with alcohol dependence or abuse. Now this was no surprise to me that this would be the answer, but also realized that almost everyone of our friends would have the same answer. There are some that would have a better result, like Devon, or some with a worse one, Dino, but for the most part we are all the same. So are we really drunks or is this test kind of bullshit? Yeah we like to get wild but as far as I know, none of us are waking up itching for a drink or getting so drunk we miss work the next day. Yeah maybe we show up 10 mins late or have to drink a half a dozen of coffees to get going but no ones getting canned.
I think its an unfair test because we are conditioned to drink in Boston. What else are we gonna do when its 6 degrees out in mid-January? Also, a friend of mine, who attends the University of Miami, had a few friends from Miami visiting, and they stated it was the first time they have ever seen a 30 rack. Everywhere else in the country they sell 24 packs, we sell 30 packs, as well as 36 packs, so we know how to drink. As I said I feel this survey is bull and when it asked if I would seek further help I quickly answered no and gave the screen the finger. So if anyone else has some free time, take a peak at that website and take the survey quick. It takes less then 5 minutes and feel free to post your results, let’s see how many of us are drunks. Also someone please make Dino take this survey, I would love nothing more then to see his results. Pretty sure the closest alcohol rehab with track him down in a matter of minutes once he completes it.

Who Are They Making These For?

So a few night ago, as Im laying in bed trying to sleep, I found myself just flipping through hundreds of channels of crap. Its about 2:30 in the morning and I suppose I could watch sportscenter again, but I decide to flip through the movie channels instead. Still there is more crap until I stumble across some dude fake chowing some fake titted chick. Now don’t get me wrong, I love some boobs late at night but it got me thinking, who the hell are they stilll making these movies for? When I was younger it was tough to get any porn, soft or hard, so skinamax was awesome. But in the last 12-13 years the availability of internet porn has sky rocketed. You can find anything, you want school girls, here you go, here’s a million websites. You want something weird like people painted like smurfs, you can have it, and im serious, I’ve seen it. So it just got me thinking who are they making this stuff for? And don’t get me wrong, I love seeing boobs, but if someone has an answer I would love to know.

Sox Gearing Up To Make Long Post-Season Run

Now that Sox are through two thirds of the season and sitting pretty on top of the AL East, even tho its only by a game, the Sox are looking good to make a deep run at the world series. The sox are currently 67-42 and have the majors best offense, leading in almost every offensive category. The Sox are also second in the AL in fielding percentage, behind only the White Sox. The biggest two issuses with the Sox so far this year is health and pitching. Everyone that had been watching the Sox knows about the numerous injuries that have plague them all year, but the pitching staff is 17th in era, just under 3.90.

So let’s take a look at the team as a while. Gonzalez had been amazing at first, not only having a gold glove worthy first base, but is currently hittin. 357 with 18 homeruns and 90 RBIs. Pedroia has been himself in the field, which is one of the best in the bigs, but as of late has been hittin the cover off the ball. After I wrote about him and his 25 game hit streak on friday, he failed to get a hit that night, but has had a hit the last 4, including 2 last night. Youkilis, when he’s been healthy, has been his normal good self and hit his 16th homerun last night. Scutaro is probably the team biggest offensive liability, but putting him in the 9 hole and playing great defense is a great role for him and the team. As for behind the plate Slaty, not going to spell his whole name, has been getting better as the season goes on and Varitek is a great number two guy at the end of his career

In the outfield, Crawford is finally back off the DL and it will be great to have that speed at the bottom of the line up. Ellsbury is at .321, 17 homeruns and 31 stolen bases and also has yet to make an error in the field. Finally, having Reddick playing everyday is a step above Drew and he’s been hitting over. 300 for the year.

As I said before the pitching staff is the biggest worry but Lester is back off the DL, Lackey has won his last decisions, Beckett has been solid all year, and the Sox just acquired Bedard from Seattle, and when healthy is a solid middle rotation guy. The starting pitching should pick it up and being back by solid relievers, Papelbon had only blown one save this season, that team ERA should come down

All in all this team looks great to make a deep post-season run and one of the front runners to be World Series Champs.

Moss Announces Retirement

Ex-Patriot Randy Moss has announced his retirement from the NFL today. After 13 seasons and 153 career TDs, including a record setting 23 for the Patriots in ’07, the 34 year old Moss was still a free agent and after not being able to find a deal that fit, he decided to hang them up. Moss’ number one team this off season was the Patriots, but Moss did not want to sign a one year deal. Moss was looking to make one more go at a championship so the list of teams he was willing to sign with was short. Moss could still sign with a team, that’s making a run, mid-season, but if this is really the end, great career Randy, you are of the all time greats.

Pedroia, best value in the majors?

Dustin Pedroia is the best player in the majors! Ok maybe he isn’t the best in the majors but he has move value then any other play in the league though. Currently Pedroia has been hitting the cover off the ball and is in the middle of a 25 game hitting streak after going 1 for 3 with a home run last night. During his current hitting streak he is 44 for 109 for a .407 average, 9 home runs, and 20 RBIs and has hit safely in every game since June 28th. Also before June 28th he had an eleven game hit streak making him have hits in 36 of his last 37 games, which an incredible stretch. His season numbers are .308 avg., .407 OBP, .493 Slugging, 15 HR, and 54 RBIs and for you sabermetrics guys out there he had WAR of 5.9, 0.7 higher then when he won his AL MVP.

Now that all sounds good to the people whose heads aren’t spinning from all those numbers, but what makes him a great value is his contract. After his 2008 MVP winning campaign, Pedroia signed a 6 year extension with the team with a 2015 team option. That’s giving the Red Sox control of him for the next 4 and a half years, and currently this season he is only making 5.5 million, which is ridiculously low. Pedroia will be getting a raise next year to 8M then 10M the following season but those numbers are still great value in today Major League Baseball.

So Pedroia is having another great season, another MVP season possibly, but is still one of those players that’s not talk about as one of the elites. Some baseball experts will ask can he be put in the middle of your line up, hitting 3rd, 4th, or 5th? The answer with Pedroia is yes he can and having an elite player, with this contract, makes him the majors best value player.
